Ferrari finally won one again at the Silverstone circuit in front of the British fans after the famous success of Sebastian Vettel back in 2018, when the German driver celebrated with a team radio message that became a classic one thanks to the ‘at their home’ message. Yet, the fans of the Maranello team, at least the majority, did not welcome third victory of the 2022 Formula One season with complete joy.
The decision by the Ferrari pitwall to stop only Carlos Sainz when the Safety Car entered the track and mount only the Ferrari F1-75 #55 with soft tires while the race leader Charles Leclerc was left out with non-competitive hard tires compared to the new red stripe ones mounted by all the rivals behind him left a bad taste in the mouth not only to the Monegasque himself, but also to many Ferrari supporters judging by the reactions expressed on the official Ferrari social profiles after the British Grand Prix.
Jean Alesi, in his usual post-race commentary for the Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera, preferred to focus on the positive aspects of the British Grand Prix, that is a winning Ferrari and a Charles Leclerc that every Sunday manages more and more to entering the heart of Ferrari fans thanks to performances and overtaking that lead to important comparisons, which Jean Alesi himself does not want to do, recognizing the Monegasque’s uniqueness:
“After Silverstone, I recommend enjoying the emotions we felt in this race. The ones that Charles Leclerc gave to all of us. I have rarely seen drivers capable of doing what Charles did. Overtaking outside the Copse is worth the ticket for an entire season – writes Jean Alesi – I don’t want to make comparisons with some big names in motorsport. I think Leclerc is Leclerc: an absolute monster. Which is paired with another red monster, the car. The resulting controversies are inevitable around Ferrari. I prefer to think that Leclerc has gained in terms of popularity and awareness, while not winning the points he deserved.” – Jean Alesi concluded.
