Jean Alesi did not hold back in his scathing criticism of Scuderia Ferrari following the 2025 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix. According to the former Formula 1 driver, nothing about Ferrari’s performance in Budapest was worth saving. Alesi, a former Ferrari driver and lifelong supporter of the Prancing Horse team, offered harsh words not only for the Maranello-based outfit but also for seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton. In his view, both the team and the British driver must urgently change their approach if they hope to return to competitiveness.
Ferrari arrived at the Hungaroring with hopes of redemption. A strong result before the summer break would have been the ideal send-off—an important morale boost for the entire team. A victory in Hungary could have reignited belief in Ferrari’s current technical project, restored motivation among the drivers, and strengthened the position of team principal Frédéric Vasseur. Instead, the outcome was the complete opposite of what had been hoped for.
Charles Leclerc experienced a dramatic and unexpected collapse in performance, despite reports confirming there were no issues with the chassis of his SF-25. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton delivered one of his most lacklustre drives of the season, fading into obscurity and failing to make an impact.
By the end of the race weekend, the mood within the Ferrari camp was extremely low. Charles Leclerc openly expressed his dissatisfaction with the 2025 campaign so far, suggesting there was little to salvage from a season that had started with much higher expectations. Lewis Hamilton went even further, reportedly asking the team to consider replacing him and describing himself as “useless.” Although team boss Frédéric Vasseur later insisted that these were words born out of frustration rather than genuine demoralisation, such statements have inevitably raised concerns within the paddock.
Jean Alesi launches scathing attack on Ferrari
In a brief but explosive editorial published by Corriere della Sera, Jean Alesi delivered an uncompromising assessment of Ferrari’s performance in Hungary. “I didn’t like anything about Ferrari during the Hungarian Grand Prix,” wrote Jean Alesi. “It started off like an Italian-style comedy and ended up as a horror film. George Russell gave the most telling insight after observing Charles Leclerc’s car during the race. A Ferrari that performs well on Saturday and then completely fades on Sunday is the most frustrating thing imaginable for those who love the Prancing Horse.”
Turning his attention to Lewis Hamilton, Jean Alesi was equally critical. He compared the British driver unfavourably to Formula 1 legends Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher, stating: “They would never have said such things. I believe his attitude demoralises those working around him.”
Jean Alesi’s words highlight growing discontent among Ferrari supporters and insiders alike, as the team continues to fall short of its goals. With both drivers under scrutiny and the technical package failing to deliver consistent results, the second half of the season now appears increasingly uncertain for the Maranello squad.
