Jarno Trulli criticizes Lewis Hamilton’s role within Ferrari, comparing him to a much faster Charles Leclerc.
Lewis Hamilton’s struggles at Ferrari—especially when compared to a very in-form Charles Leclerc—have been evident for months. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion finishes each race weekend looking drained, almost demotivated, and seemingly unable to fully grasp the intricacies of this unpredictable car.
Physically, there doesn’t appear to be an issue—his dominance during the Shanghai weekend made that clear. Rather, as others have already noted, the Briton seems to have not yet fully adapted to his new environment.
After parting ways with Mercedes, ending a successful partnership that spanned over a decade, Lewis Hamilton embarked on a bold, unprecedented journey. Like a rookie, Sir Lewis dove into the challenge of returning the Maranello-based team to its former glory, only to be met with the reality of a difficult and unstable SF-25.
“Lewis seems a bit absent”
At this point, one might wonder: would it not have been better to stay at Mercedes? Italian daily newspaper La Stampa put that very question to Jarno Trulli. “The future results will tell, of course, but right now Lewis seems a bit ‘absent’. It’s a pairing that, for now, just doesn’t work,” said the former Italian driver.
According to Trulli, Lewis Hamilton has stayed mostly in the shadows this season, with only a few exceptions. “At Ferrari he hasn’t really stood out, except in the Chinese and Miami Sprints.” In Shanghai, #44 took pole and won the Saturday sprint race. In Miami, he finished third in the Sprint.
Then there’s the comparison with a teammate clearly in better form. Lewis Hamilton “always seems to be racing alone, while Leclerc is on another level,” Jarno Trulli concluded.
