Italian racing driver Jarno Trulli, who regularly competed in Formula 1 from 1997 to 2011, was interviewed by Insider in the start of the new Formula 1 season. The former F1 driver shares his thoughts on the most important news and the hottest topics of the new campaign, in this interview taken a few days before the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The Italian driver has proved to be very lucid and rational in his analyzes, talking about many topis, among the most important of the 2022 Formula 1 season. Below is an excerpt of the interview:
Jarno Trulli about Scuderia Ferrari
“Everyone expects a more competitive Ferrari. If it can win the title, I don’t know. It is always difficult to start from afar and present yourself as a winning side, although the team has all the characteristics and potential to do so […]. I believe that Mattia Binotto like everyone else has focused on this technical regulation revolution to be able to get closer to the great Mercedes and Red Bull teams. I think they can do it, but it won’t be easy”.
Jarno Trulli on Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz
“I have always said that Charles Leclerc was a good driver and is a very good driver. I have always praised Carlos Sainz that he is a good professional. The two drivers have different characteristics. They are one of the best line-ups in the sport, I think Leclerc was a bit downsized by Sainz who proved to be as good as Leclerc”.
Jarno Trulli on the “young” drivers
“There are some interesting drivers in Formula 1. Besides Verstappen, we have an excellent Leclerc, Sainz, Russell. Let’s not forget Lando Norris who did very well last year ”.

Jarno Trulli on Lewis Hamilton
“The numbers are on his side. To win the world championship, you need an excellent team and a car at the highest lever. Hamilton is in the Olympus of the greats. I don’t believe in an imminent retirement of him. He will want to win another title to be the greatest of all.”
Jarno Trulli on the new generation of Formula 1 cars
“Difficult to judge these new cars. Perhaps there is a visibility problem due to the large tires.”
