In a recent article posted on their website, Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport provided some interesting updates and revealed early details of the Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull 2023 Formula 1 cars, with more than one month ahead of the moment we will get a first glimpse of the new challengers.
Red Bull’s single-seater for the 2023 Formula 1 campaign is said to be a much lighter car, as the RB19 will most likely begin the season as the fastest car on the grid, but could have more difficulties in keeping its pace advantage given the development restrictions imposed on the Austrian side due to exceeding the budget cap in 2021.
As the sport gradually starts to reawaken from its winter slumber, small pieces of information regarding the 2023 F1 challengers are being reported by various media outlets.
AlphaTauri, Aston Martin and Scuderia Ferrari are the only three teams to have officially confirmed the dates for their 2023 car launch, while the rest of the teams, including Red Bull and Mercedes have not yet confirmed their respective schedules, with a three-way battle for the titles expected next season.
In the meanwhile, Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport revealed some early pointers on the 2023 Formula 1 cars themselves, particularly the ones that proved the best in the previous championship, as Ferrari started the 2022 campaign strong, while Red Bull dominated the second part of the championship.

In a recent technical analysis on the as-yet-unnamed Ferrari challenger, which in Maranello is called Project 675 for now, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs that the Italian side is working on a car that will be based on the key design concepts of the F1-75 and will in fact not prove to be a revolution of last year’s car. The Maranello team is therefore confident in the solid performance and the qualities showed by the F1-75, which many times missed out on the chance to score better results due to Ferrari mistakes in terms of strategy and power unit technical failures.

La Gazzetta dello Sport also informs that Scuderia Ferrari’s 2023 single-seater will be narrower as a result of an ‘aerodynamic concept that will be largely different’ and other important changes and innovations will be made to the gearbox which will ‘be more capable of increasing the competitiveness of the car’. The Italian newspapers confirms the information reported by Motorsport Italy a few weeks ago, namely that the Ferrari power unit for next year will be able to use significantly more power after the Maranello technicians fixed the reliability issues.
Regarding the Red Bull car, which will most likely be named the RB19 if the Austrian side continues the trend of the past seasons, F1 journalist and expert Paolo Filisetti reports that the new challenger is set to be 3kg lighter than the RB18 which finished the 2022 championship as the best car on the grid: “The gearbox, thanks to a different placement of the suspension elements, will present a lower narrowing, increasing the section of the Venturi channels. The layout of the sides will maintain strong points of contact with the 2022 car, but will be characterised by a refinement of the ‘double bottom’.” – Paolo Filisetti wrote.
Speculation regarding a lighter Red Bull chassis are clearly not something new, as the Austrian side wanted to introduce such a chassis already from the second part of the 2022 Formula 1 season, but eventually decided not to do so aware that they would win both titles regardless of the updated component and also due to the controversial debate of the budget cap, with Red Bull wanting to avoid a new infringement in terms of expenses.
