Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto did not hold back in commenting on the great expectations that the Maranello team has regarding the power unit which from 2022 – in the hopes of the engineers – should bring the Prancing Horse engine back to being as competitive as its rivals, in a scenario that then foresees a three-year period freezing of the engines.
Scuderia Ferrari therefore cannot get it wrong this time and has already introduced some parts of the hybrid in the current season, to evaluate its potential and identify any corrections needed in view of the near future and so far no problems have been found on the cars of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. Indeed, there was the feeling of a decent step forward, albeit minimized by the Maranello bosses.
But the hybrid part is only the first step of a much larger design, as Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport suggests: “They will still get their hands on this hybrid to improve it further – new technology equals bold technology – and the is half of the endothermic power unit missing, too, which is even more interesting since it is a device whose general concept is more understandable by the general public”. In particular, the V6 could also mark the turning point in terms of working methods and the ability to innovate: “Mattia Binotto does not say that this V6 has even more innovative and advanced technological contents than the new hybrid part. Therefore, the light bulb of Archimedes Pythagorean would have been rekindled at Ferrari: the ideas have returned, which remain the best ticket for access to victories and world titles ” – Corriere dello Sport concluded.
