The sad Sunday of Paul Ricard is now in the rearview mirror of Scuderia Ferrari. After Charles Leclerc’s mistake and the awareness of having once again lost the opportunity to reduce the gap to Max Verstappen and Red Bull in the world rankings, it is time to turn the page in Maranello. The calendar offers the Italian side a good opportunity to hit back this weekend, given that the last race before the summer break will take place in Hungary at the Hungaroring racetrack in Mogyorod, near Budapest.
The Budapest track seems to be specially designed to favor the strengths of the F1-75 car, from speed in slow corners to clear supremacy in qualifying. Unfortunately, the numbers say that a comeback in the battle for the 2022 Formula 1 world championship is now almost impossible. Team principal Mattia Binotto and head of strategies Iñaki Rueda did not hide after the disappointing outcome at the Paul Ricard circuit, pointing out the desire of the whole team to score a double win at the Hungarian circuit.
Gianluca Gasparini, in the pages of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, is however convinced that the best way to enjoy the Hungarian Grand Prix and to indeed secure a 1-2 finish on Sunday at the Hungaroring is to not make too many calculations on the ranking, instead taking each race step by step in the hope of rebuilding that habit of winning, which was typical of Ferrari at the beginning of the millennium.
“Ferrari needs a perfect weekend. But for it to become such, the first rule that needs to be followed is not to live it as if it were the last chance this year […]. The Maranello team has to face the ten GPs that remain in the 2022 Formula 1 season […], setting aside the thinking behind the standings and calculations […] another thought to be dismissed […] is the one that sees this year’s world championship opportunity as something unique or almost unique […]. […] In 2023 there will be no technical revolutions […]. […] From the chassis to the power unit, Ferrari is doing fine, even from a future point of view. Should it not happen this year […], Ferrari can try again peacefully next year. This also helps to deal with the pressure of having to win […]” – Gazzetta dello Sport reports.
