Is Laurent Mekies also at risk of being fired from Ferrari? It’s clearly not a positive moment for the Prancing Horse team. The bitter disappointment following the Bahrain Grand Prix, the first race of the 2023 Formula 1 season, was so high as to unleash a real earthquake in Maranello.
The problem, as the fans know well, are the technical aspects. The wiring error on Charles Leclerc’s car or the tire degradation that (unfortunately) persists are only the consequences of what happens within the management.
After David Sanchez, who resigned as head of the aerodynamics sector, another important figure could leave the team. According to rumors revealed by Corriere dello Sport (later reported by FormulaPassion.it), the discontent in Ferrari can all be traced back to the rift between Frédérick Vasseur and the managing director Benedetto Vigna.
Difficult moment for Ferrari
According to Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport, president John Elkann has instructed Benedetto Vigna to commission Frederic Vasseur, who, despite being a team principal, holds significantly less power than the other nine team principals in the Formula One paddock. Among these, Corriere dello Sport lists the team pass, “which usually pertain to the team principal. Upon his arrival, he asked for the proxy on the sponsors and was denied: even that was kept by Benedetto Vigna who had taken it away from Binotto in March 2021. ”
In Mattia Binotto’s defense, Corriere dello Sport says the former Ferrari team principal sided with his engineers when they made a mistake. “Anyone who no longer feels protected takes refuge within the confines of his job so as not to run into a mistake that could cost him his job”, continued the Italian newspaper.

Or it could happen that those who are appreciated, in the case of David Sanchez, take their things and decide to leave of their own free will. In fact, Corriere dello Sport clarified that the head of aerodynamics (whose next destination would be McLaren) was not forced to leave.

The next head that could fall in Maranello? According to the indiscretion it could be that of the engineer Laurent Mekies. “Is Laurent Mekies looking for a house in Paris?” – Corriere dello Sport concluded. Time will tell.
