It ‘s time for spring cleaning at Ferrari, even if it’s still February. The Maranello team has started the changes with a new driver (Carlos Sainz), has worked on an engine that will hopefully be more satisfying and has undergone a structure reshuffle to attempt greater fluidity in decisions that have to be made in the complicated world of Formula. 1.
This sense of expectation is gaining momentum in Italian newspapers, accompanied by the desire for improvement, after a very dark 2020: “The new organization chart resumes that of 2007: Mattia Binotto is relieved of some responsabilities, the Scuderia Ferrari Commercial, Marketing and Events department will be part of the Brand Diversification Area headed by Nicola Boari. The goal is to create a leaner and more effective structure, with precise responsibilities and well-defined areas of intervention“, informs Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera. The main ‘human’ innovations are related to the development of the chassis, led by Enrico Cardile. Cardile himself will oversee the work of David Sanchez (aerodynamics, vehicle concept), Fabio Montecchi (project engineering) and Diego Ioverno (head of machine operations).
“Team principal Mattia Binotto will be less physically present in the pits, where the operational duties will be carried out by his right arm, Frenchman Laurent Mekies. The engineers (Cardile, Sanchez, Montecchi, Gualtieri) do not change, while the management of external relations and communication of the racing department has been entrusted to Luca Colajanni, who returned to Maranello a year ago and has already won several world championships with the Montezemolo Dream Team., Todt and Schumi”, recalled Leo Turrini on the Resto del Carlino.
“After a very poor season (Binotto’s vote) Ferrari is working to reduce the gap with Mercedes and Honda, focusing above all on the power unit. In the meantime, work is being done to make the team more efficient: the first novelty that catches the eye is the concentration under the guidance of Enrico Cadile of everything related to the vast area of vehicle performance, which will include aerodynamic development and track engineering. The latter was previously the responsibility of Laurent Mekies, who remains sporting director”- reported the Gazzetta dello Sport. No revolution, very low profile and internal rearrangements: for more enthusiasm we will have to wait.
