Journalist Roberto Chinchero spoke about Carlos Sainz’s victory at the Marina Bay street circuit in Singapore, commenting on the exceptional form the Spanish driver is experiencing, after also securing a podium finish two weeks ago in the Italian Grand Prix.
When asked if the current situation is a test of maturity for Charles Leclerc, he replied, “It is certainly a topic because this is an unprecedented situation for him.”
“I believe it’s a test for Charles Leclerc, but it has happened to many other champions. It happened to Lewis Hamilton with Nico Rosberg, for example, as well as other winning drivers. At a certain point, you have a teammate who is performing better than you,” he added.
“As we’ve always said, the only judgment is the stopwatch, and Carlos is performing better at the moment. I think two situations have intersected: Charles is not in his best period, and Sainz has improved. The combination of these two factors has determined the balance we saw today.”
The journalist also emphasized the importance of Carlos Sainz in Ferrari’s team result: “Today, without Carlos, Ferrari would not only not have won but probably would have struggled to get on the podium,” he concluded following the Singapore Grand Prix.
