The analysis by Giorgio Terruzzi on Lewis Hamilton’s performance and post-race comments following the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix suggests that the Ferrari driver is becoming increasingly critical of how things are being managed within the Italian racing team.
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton crossed the finish line at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in seventh position. After starting the race from eighteenth place on the grid, the British driver managed to climb his way into the points thanks to a well-executed strategy. Hamilton was among the first to switch to slick tyres when the track conditions began to dry, and his early pit stop proved to be a textbook example of the undercut. As a result, he gradually overtook rivals from the back of the field and steadily moved into the top ten.
For Lewis Hamilton, who was later voted “Driver of the Day” by fans, it was a performance that yielded a result far more satisfying than expected under the circumstances. Nonetheless, the British driver made it clear that there is still significant work to be done within the team to become truly competitive.
Italian journalist Giorgio Terruzzi discussed Hamilton’s comments on his podcast Terruzzi Racconta, arguing that describing the Spa performance as a dramatic “comeback” may be overblown in the context of a driver of Hamilton’s calibre.
“In my opinion, it’s offensive to frame Hamilton’s drive from eighteenth to seventh as some kind of extraordinary comeback. I can’t treat it like a miracle. It’s almost disrespectful to Hamilton himself,” Giorgio Terruzzi stated.
He then turned his attention to the post-race remarks made by the former Mercedes driver, highlighting the deeper implications: “Hamilton arrives at Spa and says: ‘This team has so many issues. And not just related to the car, but also with how work is organized. That’s why I see myself in a position where I need to give guidance, not just on the car’s setup, but also on how the technical side is being managed.’”
According to Terruzzi, these remarks from Sir Lewis Hamilton go beyond mere frustration and should prompt serious internal reflection within the Scuderia Ferrari organisation.
“This sounds like the kind of statement you would expect from a team principal,” the Italian journalist noted, adding: “It’s an implicit criticism of Frédéric Vasseur, even though Hamilton is also defending him in a way.”
Giorgio Terruzzi appeared to defend the British driver’s stance, suggesting that Lewis Hamilton is trying to shift the narrative away from himself and instead draw attention to larger, structural issues within Ferrari.
“I think it’s his way of saying: ‘Look, I’m redirecting the focus. The problems are not with me. I haven’t lost my edge or form. The real issues are outside of me — they lie within the car and inside this team,’” the Italian journalist concluded.
