Official – From 2027, Formula 1 will return to Istanbul Park

After months of speculation and persistent rumors, it is now official: Turkey will return to the Formula 1 calendar. The comeback has been secured through a multi-year agreement spanning five seasons, which will see the pinnacle of motorsport return to Istanbul Park from 2027 until 2032. This deal brings the Formula 1 circus back to one of the most highly regarded and fan-favorite circuits of recent years.

“The return of the Turkish Grand Prix to the Formula 1 calendar is a victory for passion and for Turkey’s confidence in sport,” declared Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the official event organized to announce the return of the race in Istanbul.

“The Formula 1 races that will take place at Istanbul Park for at least five years will not only reinforce Istanbul’s leadership position on the global stage, but will also demonstrate to the world that our country is a safe haven in its region.”

Stefano Domenicali, President and Chief Executive Officer of Formula 1, also commented on the announcement: “We are delighted to return to the incredible and vibrant city of Istanbul starting from 2027, bringing excitement to all our fans in Turkey and around the world on one of the most thrilling and challenging circuits in Formula 1. As a city, Istanbul represents a cultural bridge between Europe and Asia, offering a unique blend of history and tradition combined with a forward-looking approach to sport, business, and entertainment.”

“I would like to thank His Excellency President Erdoğan, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation for their support in securing the return of Formula 1. Istanbul Park has delivered many memorable moments in the history of our sport, and I am excited to begin the next chapter of our partnership, offering fans the opportunity to experience even more incredible racing in a truly spectacular setting.”

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem added: “The return of Formula 1 to Turkey clearly reflects the continued global growth and appeal of our sport, and I am pleased to see the Turkish Grand Prix rejoin the FIA Formula 1 World Championship calendar. Istanbul Park is a circuit that holds a special place in Formula 1 history, and its return underlines our shared commitment to expanding the championship into dynamic markets.”

“My thanks go to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and to Eren Üçlertoprağı, President of the FIA member club, the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED). Through this strong collaboration, we are not only securing the long-term future of Formula 1 in Turkey, but also supporting the continued development of motorsport, strengthening the foundations for sustainable growth in the years to come.”
