Isack Hadjar Shares Insights on Racing Against Lewis Hamilton and His Rapid Rise in Formula 1
Isack Hadjar is quickly silencing critics and making a name for himself in the world of Formula 1. The promising Red Bull junior has transitioned impressively into the sport’s highest level, showcasing both raw speed and growing maturity. His meteoric rise has sparked comparisons with established stars, but perhaps most notably, Hadjar now finds himself sharing the grid with a driver he long admired—Lewis Hamilton.
Despite being in awe of Lewis Hamilton’s legacy, Isack Hadjar has shown no signs of intimidation. In fact, such is his self-belief that he admitted to Mundo Deportivo he hasn’t felt the need to ask the seven-time world champion for advice. The French-Algerian talent reflected on the surreal experience of racing alongside Hamilton, now competing with Ferrari. He described the experience as “great,” highlighting the privilege of interacting with a driver he had supported since childhood and noting that he even gets along well with Hamilton’s father. While acknowledging the significant age gap between them, Hadjar emphasized the mutual respect that defines their relationship.
When discussing whether Hamilton has taken on a mentoring role, Isack Hadjar was clear that, while they maintain a cordial relationship, their roles as rivals prevent any deeper mentor-pupil dynamic from developing. He explained that Hamilton doesn’t offer much advice, and even if he did, Isack Hadjar wouldn’t actively seek it. The 19-year-old prefers to carve his own path in Formula 1, expressing a strong desire to learn independently rather than rely on guidance from others.
Isack Hadjar also offered his perspective on Hamilton’s adjustment period at Ferrari, noting the contrast between their respective transitions into new environments. He observed that for a driver like Lewis Hamilton, who spent many years at Mercedes, the move to a different team brings a more abrupt shift in routine and expectations. In Hadjar’s case, the constant movement through junior categories—Formula 3, Formula 2, and now Formula 1—has conditioned him to adapt quickly without forming rigid habits. According to him, this adaptability is one of his greatest strengths. He went so far as to suggest that having ingrained habits could actually be a liability in a sport as fluid as Formula 1.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton continues to navigate a challenging 2025 campaign. Fourteen rounds remain in the season, yet the British driver currently trails championship leader Oscar Piastri by a significant 119 points. Moreover, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion finds himself behind his own teammate, Charles Leclerc, by 25 points in the standings. It’s been a season of transition and adversity for the 39-year-old, as he works to acclimate to Ferrari’s machinery and dynamics.
Isack Hadjar’s rapid adaptation and confident mindset contrast sharply with Lewis Hamilton’s ongoing adjustment, highlighting the generational and situational differences between the two drivers. While the Briton seeks to reignite his title hopes in a new environment, Hadjar is building momentum with each race, determined to establish himself as a force for the future. In doing so, he’s not only turning heads across the paddock but also steadily transforming skeptics into believers.
