Hamilton, Hadjar’s idol: “He never won a title by driving dirty”
On more than one occasion, Isack Hadjar, one of this season’s rookies and a talent of the Red Bull Junior Team, has spoken highly of Lewis Hamilton, who has always been considered his childhood idol. Now that the two are competing on track, the French driver has never forgotten the Grands Prix he watched before his Formula 1 debut, where he admired Hamilton’s competitive side without him ever resorting to unfair tactics.
It is no coincidence that Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari’s #44, is considered by Isack Hadjar to be one of the greatest of all time alongside Ayrton Senna. In recent comments to Clique TV, Isack Hadjar highlighted Lewis Hamilton’s sporting side: “In Formula 1, yes. He and Ayrton Senna – referring to his two all-time ‘greats’ – never won a title by driving dirty. He always won head-to-head. If there is anyone on the grid who deserved their place and achieved it through determination, it is Hamilton. He also knew how to make the difference. Everyone knows that his career is extremely inspiring. Moreover, he is an incredible person, both professionally and personally.”
Isack Hadjar’s praise mixes with the surreal emotions of competing on track against the seven-time world champion, a feeling almost unreal for the #6 of Racing Bulls: “This year, I had the privilege of racing against my idol. That was probably the boldest moment; challenging him on track is an incredible feeling. We had several on-track battles, and it really feels surreal. Even a few weeks ago in Baku, I was racing knowing Lewis was behind me. He is the person I have always admired, and now I am defending my position against him. Most of the time, unfortunately, he ends up overtaking me, but I have enjoyed every single battle with him.”
