When those doubts creep in, it’s a sign to move on. I’m glad I made the leap, and as expected, Red Bull has done just fine without me.”

Ferrari: A Road Not Taken

In 2014, Ferrari expressed interest in acquiring Rob Marshall’s services, but he chose to remain loyal to Red Bull at the time. When he decided to leave in 2023, Ferrari again seemed like a potential destination. Marshall himself acknowledged Ferrari’s enduring appeal:

“It’s flattering to be in demand. On the grid, only a handful of teams have a proven legacy, and Ferrari’s is unmatched. McLaren and Williams also share that storied history. Red Bull and Mercedes, on the other hand, are more about recent success.”

Despite Ferrari’s allure, Marshall’s path led elsewhere. Interestingly, the timing could have aligned, as Ferrari was undergoing significant restructuring in early 2023. David Sanchez departed, and Frederic Vasseur promoted Enrico Cardile. However, British engineers often prefer to stay within the UK, and Marshall ultimately chose McLaren over the possibility of relocating to Italy.

Today, Ferrari appears content with Loic Serra, who stepped into the role of technical director on October 1, 2024, succeeding Cardile. Meanwhile, Marshall has expressed satisfaction with his decision to join McLaren:
