After the news of his departure from Mercedes, many were eager to see Lewis Hamilton in Ferrari red. However, the seven-time world champion’s start to the season has not lived up to expectations. Between an SF-25 car that is not yet fully understood by the technicians at Maranello and an adjustment period that should have been anticipated, Lewis Hamilton is still trying to find the right balance to have the necessary confidence when he hits the track.
And there are those who are already talking about goodbye
According to a former F1 driver, Lewis Hamilton could soon bid farewell to Ferrari. “I feel that he will leave the team,” said Jaime Alguersuari during his appearance on The After Lap podcast. “I don’t know why I decided to take such a risk by saying this, but my feeling is that his time is over. He’s already won a lot, and I think he joined Ferrari just to see what would happen in 2026.”
“However, Ferrari is not a winning team. It’s a team that wins races but not championships. It’s no coincidence that they haven’t won since 2008. They can have a competitive car and team, but they are not winners. There is a big difference in this,” the former Toro Rosso driver added.
It is unlikely that the British driver will leave the Scuderia before the end of his contract. From the moment he signed, Lewis Hamilton was aware that the main focus was on the 2026 Formula 1 campaign, and for that reason, he will wait to see Ferrari’s new project before reflecting on his future.
The new regulatory changes represent an opportunity that teams cannot afford to miss if they hope to compete for the championship. For this reason, it will be crucial to be ready and arrive at the starting line with a competitive car to avoid having to chase from the very beginning.
