The future of the English engineer risks becoming, if it isn’t already, the next highly discussed in Formula 1. Currently, the name Adrian Newey is being increasingly linked with Ferrari, led by Frederic Vasseur.
After the announcement of his departure from Red Bull, a real “race” for Adrian Newey began. Many teams are interested in him, from Ferrari to Mercedes to Aston Martin. The Englishman has received several offers that he now has to evaluate.
There is nothing strange or sensational about this. It is absolutely normal for many teams, if not all, to have contacted him to evaluate potential interest. It would have been more unusual if the opposite had happened.
Among these teams is certainly Ferrari. Based on information gathered in recent weeks, the Maranello team seems to be at an advanced stage in negotiations with Adrian Newey.
Fred Vasseur’s update on Adrian Newey
In an interview given to the Italian media a few days after the Monaco Grand Prix, Fred Vasseur responded to a specific question about whether he was still in talks with Adrian Newey. The Ferrari team principal, however, tried to dodge the topic by responding:
“I talked like everyone else in the paddock when we met, because we are well-mannered. But on this point, I don’t want to comment because every single answer would be interpreted.” – the French manager pointed out – “The most important thing is the team’s stability. As I said before, I believe we are doing a good job. We are going in the right direction. For me, the most important thing is the group’s stability, much more than individuals. I am very satisfied with the current situation.” – the Ferrari boss added.
Fred Vasseur, therefore, does not want to commit too much on the possibility of seeing Adrian Newey at Ferrari. Surely the Englishman would be a great addition, but it’s not just one person that changes the fate of a team.
Scuderia Ferrari now has a much calmer environment, and the results on the track demonstrate this. Hiring Newey would certainly be a significant plus, but Frederic Vasseur has a lot of faith in his current team members.
