Lewis Hamilton dazzles at the 2025 Met Gala with a symbolic and tailored look that carries a deep meaning.
Less than 24 hours after the Miami Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton stepped onto another prestigious stage: the 2025 Met Gala, showcasing a look that impressed everyone. He made his debut as co-chair with one of the evening’s most symbolic and refined outfits. As tradition goes, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion was among the few to fully embrace the theme of the event, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” with a custom-made suit by Wales Bonner.
Lewis Hamilton’s look consisted of an ivory suit with a cropped jacket, pants with a side stripe, tailcoat tails, a white bow tie, and an embroidered sash hanging from his waist. Completing the ensemble was a beret designed by Stephen Jones Millinery.
A Look Full of Cultural Meaning
“We’ve merged different influences, from the paintings of Barkley L. Hendricks to African American spiritual clothing to the distinctive handcrafted symbols of the brand,” Wales Bonner told Vogue. “Among the details are jewelry decorations, baobab flower patterns, and natural materials like cowrie shells and mother-of-pearl buttons.”
Hamilton, who has always viewed fashion as a form of cultural expression, collaborated for months with his long-time stylist Eric McNeal to fully honor the “Tailored for You” dress code. “We are both very mindful and intentional about fashion,” said the driver. “I hope everyone participating feels the urge to deeply reflect on what they wear.”

McNeal explained that the inspiration came from the Harlem Renaissance and the figure of Cab Calloway, symbolizing elegance and charisma. “Lewis wanted every detail to have meaning,” he said. The sash was decorated with cowrie shells, considered protective amulets in African culture, and the baobab-inspired pins included garnets, in homage to the driver’s birth month (January).
Even the cufflinks, shaped like Whirligig African Daisies, were rich with symbolism. “They’re a beautiful metaphor for growth, memory, and African heritage,” McNeal concluded.
With this look, Lewis Hamilton once again demonstrated how fashion can be a powerful means to tell personal and cultural stories, blending style and meaning with impeccable elegance.
