Only Charles Leclerc showed up to Lando Norris’ championship party – Here’s why
Lando Norris celebrated his first Formula 1 World Championship with an exclusive afterparty in Abu Dhabi. Among friends, family, and McLaren team members, only one driver from the F1 grid was spotted at the party organized by Amber Lounge at the W Hotel Yas Marina.
Following the on-track celebrations at Yas Marina at the end of the race, Lando Norris marked the historic achievement of his first F1 World Championship with an exclusive afterparty, a now-iconic format for end-of-season celebrations, hosted by Amber Lounge.
With DJ sets, VIP tables, and a select group of guests, what stood out was not the presence of celebrities but the near-total absence of F1 drivers. Only Charles Leclerc, accompanied by his fiancée Alexandra Saint Mleux, attended the new world champion’s party.
This fact reflects the atmosphere in the paddock after a season lived on the edge, only resolved at the final race. The 26-year-old Bristol native clinched the title with a third-place finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, enough to end the championship two points ahead of Max Verstappen, who staged a furious comeback in the latter part of the season, and Oscar Piastri, his McLaren teammate rival until the final laps of the year.
The celebrations were intentionally intimate. Lando Norris attended the party hand in hand with his fiancée Magui Corceiro, surrounded by family, close friends, and McLaren team members. Videos circulating on social media show the British driver singing Sweet Caroline and We Are The Champions, lifted by friends as the music underscored a night that felt more like liberation than ostentation.
The absence of most drivers was deliberate: the championship had been decided in Abu Dhabi after weeks of tension and a three-way battle that strained relationships and alliances. In this context, the presence of Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc stands out as an exception, a sign of a personal bond beyond on-track rivalry. Ironically, Charles Leclerc was the driver who, aside from the penalty risk in his duel with Max Verstappen’s teammate Yuki Tsunoda, had seriously jeopardized his own third-place finish in the final race—the very position that, given the Dutchman’s Red Bull success, would have secured the title.
McLaren opted for a brief pause in the UAE capital: by Monday, Lando Norris was already scheduled for media duties, while on Tuesday he returned to the track for post-season testing. A short break, but enough to cap a season that marked the definitive maturation of the British driver—from unfinished talent to Formula 1 World Champion.
