F1 | Tension at Ferrari: Lewis Hamilton shows no mercy, key positions at risk
Following a reported dispute between Fred Vasseur and Matteo Togninalli, combined with a tense dynamic involving Charles Leclerc, new details have emerged regarding the internal situation at Ferrari. The Scuderia continues to struggle to find consistency in this 2025 Formula 1 season. Beyond on-track issues, fresh tensions are surfacing within the team itself. After narrowly missing the 2024 Constructors’ Championship and with the arrival of Lewis Hamilton, expectations for this year were high. Yet, the SF-25 has so far failed to match the competitiveness of teams like McLaren.
After 18 races, Maranello has yet to secure a main Grand Prix victory, with the exception of Hamilton’s Sprint race win in China. Poor performances in recent rounds have allowed Mercedes to seize second place in the Constructors’ Championship, pushing Ferrari down to third. Meanwhile, Red Bull is closing in, making the Scuderia vulnerable to further pressure in the championship standings.
Ferrari: new insights into the 2025 season
Recently, Corriere dello Sport reported a dispute between Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur and engineer Matteo Togninalli, which allegedly occurred after the last F1 round. Maranello quickly issued denials regarding both the confrontation and any tensions involving Charles Leclerc. However, according to Daniele Sparisci of Corriere della Sera, despite official denials, the atmosphere at Ferrari remains highly tense. Attention continues to focus primarily on the track engineering department, and Togninalli’s position is reportedly precarious. In recent years, this department has undergone numerous changes that may have weakened it rather than strengthened it, potentially becoming the Achilles’ heel of the Prancing Horse.
The Italian publication suggests that on-track procedures and sudden performance swings from Friday to Saturday have prompted Lewis Hamilton to compile and submit a new report to Ferrari management. The seven-time world champion has yet to make a significant mark within the team, possibly hindered by internal politics and organizational complexities. Hamilton’s drive to influence performance decisions could further intensify the pressure on key engineering roles at Maranello, creating a scenario where important positions may be at risk.
As Ferrari navigates these internal challenges, the spotlight remains on Hamilton and the track engineering team. How the Scuderia manages internal tensions, stabilizes performance, and leverages Lewis Hamilton’s experience will be critical in determining whether Ferrari can regain competitiveness in the remaining 2025 races. The combination of technical uncertainty and team dynamics makes for a high-stakes environment where each decision could have significant consequences for the championship battle.
