Thanks to the images posted by Spanish journalist and F1 expert Albert Fabrega on his Twitter profile, we can comment on the updates and innovations that various teams have brought for the next round of the 2023 Formula One season, the Azerbaijan GP.
Assessing the first photos of the SF-23 assembled and being moved to the pit lane on Thursday morning, we can hypothesize that Ferrari’s new aerodynamic package will not debut in Baku. The “sculpted” sidepods will probably debut in the next GPs with the deadline for the event in Spain being categorically imposed by team principal Frederic Vasseur. It was foreseeable that an important update package would not be presented at this event, which we remember will allow only one free practice session, before throwing the teams into the chaotic action of the new format for the Sprint Race.
The Maranello team believes it can still solve part of the problems seen in the beginning of the season by working on setups and wing configurations. Here in Baku, with the long straights and the highest top speeds of the season, the SF-23 shows a very low load rear wing and even the beam wing above the diffuser has undergone modifications to maximize the effect of the DRS.
In the very first images of the morning, we also saw a new nose, which, however, is not present in the latest photos. We will see if that solution, more flattened, will actually be used or if it was just a dummy exposed for the use of opponents.
