On the weekend between 22 and 24 April 2022, the Formula 1 world championship will stop at the ‘Enzo e Dino Ferrari’ circuit in Imola for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, valid for the fourth round of the world championship. Almost three months after the first of the two Formula 1 events which are scheduled to take place on Italian soil, the Imola track could however start a race against time for the restoration of a work of art that is symbolic for the entire structure such as Arman, which was built back in 1999.
23 years ago, the Municipality of Imola together with Franco Calarota, chairman of Maggiore g.a.m., commissioned to Arman a Monument dedicated to Ferrari. “Rampante” (1999), an assemblage of five-meter-tall pile of bronze replicas of Ferrari F40 models, is the first monument ever dedicated to the car itself.
With the passage of time, more than two decades after the cutting of the ribbon, this structure has inevitably deteriorated, leading to the necessity of performing a restoration operation: this, specifically, involves the disassembly and subsequent repainting, to an overall cost estimated at several thousand euros. The municipal councilor Antonio Ussia, belonging to the Imola Corre civic list, brought this issue to the attention of the Mayor Marco Panieri. The latter, who presented a motion that will be discussed at the next City Council, included a plan of work that also views the redevelopment of other monuments – including those dedicated to Gilles Villeneuve and Ayrton Senna – as well as projects that may involve schools through paths that tell the history of monuments.
