Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was on a demonstration run in Niki Lauda’s 1974 Ferrari 312 B3, taking the classic challenger for a ride around the streets of Monte Carlo, but would lose the rear of the 312 B3 as he entered La Rascasse, causing damage to the rear wing upon a heavy whack of the barrier.
Immediately after the incident at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix in Monte Carlo, Charles Leclerc explained that he had a brake problem. Some have questioned Charles’ version, assuming a driving error, but a photograph that Motorsport Italy came into possession of confirms what the Monegasque driver explained after the demo run in his Ferrari 312 B2 from 1972.

This is an image taken a few moments before the accident, while Charles Leclerc was on his way to La Rascasse, and shows the left front brake pad that came out of the caliper and ended up on the asphalt, breaking into several pieces.
When Charles hit the brake pedal, he only grabbed the disc on the right front wheel, and spun and hit the barriers.
“When you thought you already had all the bad luck of the world in Monaco and you lose the brakes into rascasse with one of the most iconic historical Ferrari Formula 1 car.” – the Monegasque driver posted on social media after the incident.

The 312 B3 that was raced by Niki Lauda suffered damage to the rear, and Charles seemed disappointed at the end of a show which was aimed only at greeting the large audience in the stands, ahead of the 2022 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix.
The Ferrari driver will be hoping his strings of bad luck in Monaco end this year, after in 2019 he was involved in an incident with Nico Hulkenberg’s Renault (in the exact place where he crashed at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix yesterday) that put an end to his comeback after starting from sixteenth position due to a strategy error in qualifying, while last season Charles took pole position but was unable to start the race because of a technical issue caused by a crash in the final stages of qualifying.
