Charles Leclerc’s eyes convey even more disappointment than his words. Which are also blatantly rejecting his latest performance. The Monegasque realizes that at the moment his Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz is going faster, and the former McLaren driver proved it again this Saturday by grabbing an unexpected third place, even beating a Red Bull. Charles Leclerc, on the other hand, closed the short race with a rather disappointing seventh place, overtaken by both Lando Norris and by a Lewis Hamilton who started from the last position. The choice of the starting compound certainly has something to do with it, with the yellow tire that did not give him an advantage at the start. But on the race pace the Monegasque driver would have expected a lot more. Not from the car, but from himself. These are his words after the Interlagos Saturday.
“Of course, at the start it would have been better to have the red tire. But in the long run, the medium should have been the better compound, but it didn’t and I suffered” – Charles Leclerc told Sky Sport F1 – “I struggled more than Carlos, who instead had a very good race. I struggled quite a bit on the mediums to be honest. I struggled to make the front tyres work. Had a little bit of understeer and graining. We need to understand what I and we can do better to not have this type of issue. I think the temperatures will be quite a bit different tomorrow. This was a bit of a standout, it got quite a bit cooler.” – he added.

“I was hoping to at least keep Norris’ McLaren behind. It’s bad, but I have to work on myself because the car is going strong. I have to do better tomorrow. As for the race, anything is possible. Obviously the choice of tire at the start will still be an aspect on which to pay attention. We are aiming to overtake McLaren again and finish up front with both cars”. – the Monegasque driver concluded.
