Audi yes, Porsche no: after the failure regarding the negotiations with Red Bull it is highly probable that the F1nally trademark registered by Porsche in mid-August in view of their move to Formula 1 will eventually become useless.
According to the latest rumors, in fact, the Stuttgart company no longer seems interested in Formula 1 even if there is still the possibility of negotiating with McLaren, a team that is currently led by former Porsche boss in the WEC series, Andreas Seidl.
In 2026, Formula 1 will certainly have Audi joining the sport, while an official return by Honda cannot be excluded, given that they could remain with Red Bull even beyond 2025 once the partnership with Porsche will no longer be materialized in Formula 1.
According to a recent report by German newspaper Auto Motor und Sport, however, there are two automotive giants who are taking into consideration the deadline of June 2023 to register for the 2027 Formula 1 championship and therefore enjoy the previous three years of bonuses given to new engine manufacturers (approximately 25 million dollars more to invest). These are Ford and Hyundai, both currently involved in the World Rally Championship.
Other teams have already signed up: Ferrari, Renault, Mercedes and Red Bull Powertrains, all of which also currently supply F1 teams, have of course already signed up. Other brands looking to join from 2026 should not wait too long: the deadline for application is 15 October this year.
