The 2024 Formula 1 season continues with the Hungarian Grand Prix, set to unfold over 70 laps at the 4.381-kilometre Hungaroring in Budapest on Sunday, July 21. As teams and drivers prepare for the challenges of this technical and demanding circuit, all eyes are on the second free practice (FP2) session, a critical opportunity for fine-tuning performance and strategies.
The Hungaroring, often referred to as “Monaco without the walls,” is renowned for its tight and twisty layout, which tests the precision and agility of both drivers and their machines. Nestled in the hills near Budapest, this circuit features a combination of slow and medium-speed corners, with only one main straight that limits overtaking opportunities. Its 14 turns require a well-balanced car and exceptional driver skill to navigate efficiently. Historically, the circuit has favoured teams with strong aerodynamic packages and good mechanical grip, making it a stern test of chassis and tyre management.
FP2 is particularly crucial at the Hungaroring for several reasons. Firstly, it is the longest practice session of the weekend, giving teams 90 minutes to gather valuable data under conditions that are more representative of qualifying and race settings. During this session, teams will focus on various aspects, including tyre performance on both short and long runs, fuel loads, and aerodynamic setups.
As the anticipation builds for the Hungarian Grand Prix, Ferrari fans around the world are eager to see how their team performs.
