The arrival of Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari for the 2025 Formula 1 season is the talk of the town. Even Emerson Fittipaldi felt compelled to weigh in on the biggest F1 transfer of the last decade. According to him, Sir Lewis will struggle at first, and Ferrari won’t lead the pack.
Emerson Fittipaldi’s theory
“In my opinion, McLaren is the main favorite,” Fittipaldi told *Talksport*. “I’m not just saying this because I’m tied to McLaren, but if we look at last year’s average performance, McLaren was always there.”
Emerson Fittipaldi believes the Woking-based team stood out for its consistency, a key factor in competing for the world championship. “Red Bull started losing ground, alternating highs and lows. They seem a bit lost, whereas McLaren is much more consistent. In my view, McLaren can win the world championship with Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri.”
Emerson Fittipaldi emphasized that between the two drivers, Lando Norris is the more likely candidate for success due to his greater experience. “Lando, without a doubt, is much more experienced. It will be interesting to see how the season develops. I believe in McLaren, in my opinion.” – he pointed out.
It’s not just Red Bull that will face challenges in the spring; Emerson Fittipaldi also predicts that other big names will struggle during the early stages of the championship. Among them, he mentioned Lewis Hamilton, explaining that the seven-time world champion is in a “transitional” phase due to his move to Ferrari in 2025.
“For Lewis, it’s a year of transition,” added the F1 icon. “With all his wisdom and experience, he can definitely help Ferrari, but it will take time, perhaps six months.”
Emerson Fittipaldi expressed confidence that despite the adaptation period, the partnership between Hamilton and Ferrari could deliver significant results. “It would be fantastic to see Lewis and Ferrari perform well together. It would be a great show for motorsport,” concluded the Brazilian former racing driver and motorsport executive, who competed in Formula One from 1970 to 1980.
