Today’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marks the conclusion of the 2023 Formula 1 season. To best tackle the 58 laps at the Yas Marina circuit, teams will need to choose the right strategy, a crucial element in the battle between Mercedes and Ferrari for the second place in the constructors’ championship. The race pace data from yesterday did not allow for a significant comparison between the two teams, but it could be a closely contested battle. Let’s now look at the race strategies and tire compounds available to face the 2023 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina circuit.

Tire Compounds Available for the Race

As teams approach Sunday, they must decide on the tire compounds to use for the race. The left side of the screen, in the first part, shows a general balance among all the cars. Indeed, everyone has brought two sets of hard tires and one set of mediums to Sunday. It’s worth noting Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton, who, not having participated in Q2 and Q3, have saved some sets of soft tires. The same goes for Esteban Ocon, who has a new set of soft tires for the race. Also, on the right side, all cars have at least one set of hard tires. Williams, however, faces a slightly more complicated situation, as they have a used set of medium tires.

The race strategies proposed by Pirelli for today’s race are diverse. Among the proposals, there is a convergence in tire choices for the start. In fact, three out of four strategies see the yellow tire as the starting compound, while the last one uses the red tire. The top two strategies opt for a rather conservative race with the white tire for the second part of the race. The third strategy is more aggressive, using the red tire in the later stages of the GP, which could prove to be an excellent weapon.
