Formula 1 is abuzz with a long-anticipated change: Lewis Hamilton has officially signed with Ferrari starting January 1, ending a successful 12-year run with Mercedes. This move marks a pivotal moment for both Hamilton and Fred Vasseur’s Ferrari, as the seven-time world champion prepares to make his debut in Maranello.
The Maranello team is gearing up for 2025. After finishing second in the Constructors’ Championship, just 14 points behind champions McLaren, the team seems ready for a major resurgence.
Fred Vasseur Prepares to Welcome Lewis Hamilton on January 22 in Maranello
Team principal Fred Vasseur has emphasized the significance of Lewis Hamilton’s arrival. “His experience will be crucial for the team’s development, benefiting both him and Charles Leclerc. His presence will also be important for all the engineers. We certainly need to manage the atmosphere around the team. Pressure isn’t the right word—I’d say the passion of the fans. Lewis Hamilton will also need to learn how to handle that,” he said.
Despite Hamilton’s recent struggles with Mercedes, Fred Vasseur expressed confidence in his abilities. “I’ve never been worried about his performance, quite the opposite,” he stated, adding that Hamilton’s unfavorable conditions in 2024 were primarily due to external factors.
Ferrari plans to conduct several test sessions, with the launch of the new car scheduled for February 19, followed by the first test in Bahrain. Lewis Hamilton’s first test with Ferrari, however, is set for January 22, weather permitting. Fred Vasseur is confident that Hamilton’s experience will help him adapt quickly, despite the pressure and passion of the fans.
Aiming to reclaim the title, Fred Vasseur remains optimistic about the future. “We’re making progress in the right direction,” he said, highlighting the competitiveness of the championship, which also includes McLaren, Mercedes, and Red Bull.
