F1 | Sergio Perez ready for Ferrari test: the Mexican reveals Cadillac program
Sergio Perez has shared new details about his preparation for the 2026 Formula 1 season with Cadillac, underlining how crucial Ferrari’s support will be for the American team’s debut. Cadillac is set to make its first appearance on the Formula 1 grid next year, and Perez has already been involved in simulator work. The Mexican driver is also scheduled to get back on track with a 2023 Ferrari for important TPC (Testing of Previous Cars) sessions. This step will help him regain confidence behind the wheel and adapt physically ahead of the upcoming challenge.
The team will also field Valtteri Bottas, who is currently serving as Mercedes’ third driver. Cadillac’s choice reflects a clear strategy: relying on two highly experienced drivers who can contribute significantly to the development of the car. The knowledge Perez brings from his years at Red Bull and Bottas from his long stint at Mercedes will be essential assets for the growth of the new project.
Sergio Perez’s account of his Cadillac journey
During a public appearance at a baseball game in Los Angeles, Sergio Perez spoke about his program with Cadillac and highlighted the upcoming test with Ferrari. The former Red Bull driver has already toured Cadillac’s headquarters in Charlotte, followed by a visit to the team’s European base in Silverstone. These visits were part of his early integration into the new structure.
“For me, it is important to drive this year, especially for my neck, so that my body adapts again to what will happen in 2026. I will continue to train in the simulator and I also have plans to test an older Formula 1 car,” explained Perez. According to reports, that car will indeed be the SF-23 from Maranello, which competed in the 2023 season with Ferrari.
The vision from the team leadership
In the past, team principal Lowdon had already described how Cadillac was working to simulate complete Formula 1 race weekends as part of its preparation. He explained: “The goal is to arrive as a team fully prepared for the first race. If we can do that, I believe the potential is immense. A year in Formula 1 means many races; we will evolve step by step. In the meantime, we must be a solid and reliable team. I am confident we will surprise people and that we can score points from the very beginning of the season.”
These statements underline Cadillac’s ambitious approach. The partnership with Ferrari for technical support, combined with the experience of Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, represents a strong foundation for the project. For Formula 1 fans, the prospect of seeing Perez testing a Ferrari and preparing for Cadillac’s arrival adds another layer of excitement ahead of 2026.
