Two weeks have passed since the end of the 2024 season, and after days of testing, track sessions, and promotional events, the drivers are ready to enjoy their holidays. However, the time available for rest is short, and preparation for the next Championship will soon begin. The winter weeks are crucial not only for fine-tuning the car but also for concentrating much of the physical training that cannot be done during the following months of traveling around the world.
German and Finnish former racing driver and entrepreneur Nico Rosberg, who competed under the German flag in Formula One from 2006 to 2016 and won the Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship in 2016 with Mercedes, knows this well and shared on the Sky Sport podcast how the months leading up to the first GP of the year are spent: “The pace and length of the recent Formula 1 seasons are quite crazy. Drivers can’t rest right away; they have to do PR activities and team parties for two weeks. By the time Christmas comes, there are 14 days of break where you don’t think about anything, just spending time with your family and relaxing. But then in January, you have to start again strongly, working with the engineers, possibly remotely, and spending a lot of time in the gym. From February, you definitely spend several hours at the team base, meeting sponsors, working on the simulator, and there’s never enough time.” – the former Formula 1 world champion pointed out.
