Charles Leclerc has explained why he has chosen to explore business projects while still competing at the highest level of Formula 1, rather than waiting until the end of his racing career. The Ferrari driver made it clear that his focus on performance has not changed, insisting that racing remains the central priority in his life.
Many elite athletes wait until retirement before building companies, investing in personal ventures or dedicating serious attention to projects away from competition. Charles Leclerc, however, believes it is possible to develop meaningful ideas outside Formula 1 without allowing them to interfere with the demands of racing for Ferrari.
Asked why he decided to start a business at the peak of his career, Charles Leclerc explained that almost all of his energy continues to go into becoming the best driver he can be. For him, the objective remains the same every weekend: to deliver the strongest possible performance on track and keep improving as a Formula 1 driver.
“Well, first of all, it’s clear and this has always been my priority 99% of my time is dedicated to racing and in trying to be the best possible driver. Thinking about racing, trying to make sure that the performance on track is the best,” Charles Leclerc said.
That message will be important for Ferrari fans, who naturally want to see Charles Leclerc fully committed to the team’s Formula 1 ambitions. In a championship environment where every detail matters, outside projects can sometimes raise questions about focus. The Monegasque’s answer was direct: his professional life is still built around racing, preparation and the pursuit of success with the Scuderia.
At the same time, the 28-year-old admitted that the limited free time he has is something he wants to use wisely. Rather than treating life away from Formula 1 as empty downtime, he prefers to invest it in projects that genuinely interest him and allow him to work with people he respects.
“But then, surely, the little free time that I have, I try to spend it on projects that passionate me and that I love with people I trust and that I enjoy working with as well,” he explained.
The Ferrari driver also pointed out that, over the years, he has met talented people who have helped make these opportunities possible. For Charles Leclerc, the key is not to divide attention in a damaging way, but to create a healthy balance between his Formula 1 commitments and personal passions.
“And so I’ve started to meet very, very talented people along the way. And you can combine both, so there’s no compromise to be found,” he added.
In modern Formula 1, drivers are no longer defined only by what happens between the lights going out and the chequered flag. They are global athletes, public figures and brand builders, with interests that often extend into fashion, technology, media, music, fitness or business. For Charles Leclerc, that wider identity appears to be developing naturally, without replacing the hunger that brought him to Ferrari.
His comments also reflect a broader shift in the sport. Today’s drivers understand that a racing career can be intense but relatively short, and building projects alongside competition can help create a more complete future. The challenge is making sure those activities support the driver’s life rather than distract from it.
Charles Leclerc insisted that he has found a balance that works for him, while making it clear that Formula 1 will remain the foundation of everything until the day he retires from racing: “Racing is and will remain the main priority until the end of my career. But I found a good balance between the two and I’m happy that way,” the Ferrari driver concluded.
For Ferrari supporters, the most important part of Leclerc’s answer is the reassurance that his competitive ambition has not softened. His outside projects may show another side of his personality, but his main target remains unchanged: delivering results for Ferrari and continuing the fight to reach the very top of Formula 1.
