A cloud of smoke and a few flames peeking out of the car. This is how Kimi Raikkonen’s first free practice in Abu Dhabi ended in the last GP of the F1 season, staged on 13 December. The final act was in line with a championship that was anything but exciting, characterized by many races spent in the rear and only four points won by the Finn Alfa Romeo.
FIREMAN
However, the engine that went up in flames during the day of testing did not take away the initiative from the former Ferrari driver. The 2007 world champion got out of the car promptly after parking due to the mechanical failure and decided to help the race marshals of the circuit who had rescued him. Raikkonen took the fire extinguisher, personally extinguishing the start of the fire.
PRESENT
The episode did not go unnoticed, especially in Finland. The Helsinki firefighters wanted to pay homage to their new and improvised colleague with a video message that went viral and shared by Kimi himself on his Instagram stories. The Finnish firefighters decided to give Raikkonen a special gift: “When the car caught fire, your performance was truly remarkable. For this reason, we want to give you a new fire extinguisher and an original helmet from the Helsinki fire brigade to protect you in future races ”. The Alfa Romeo driver thanked for the thought and seems to have already identified himself in the new role: “Everything is ready for New Year’s Eve”.
