Helmut Marko revealed that he tried to bring Oliver Bearman into the Red Bull family.
The young English talent is now firmly tied to Ferrari, but things could have gone differently. Helmut Marko, in fact, unveiled that he had a discussion with Oliver Bearman, who, however, had already joined the Ferrari Driver Academy.
Oliver Bearman is still on everyone’s lips after his impressive debut in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Called to replace Carlos Sainz, the Englishman truly impressed with his performance on track in Jeddah.
Many, including colleagues and insiders, were struck by him, and now there is speculation about whether he will be seen regularly on the grid in the upcoming Formula 1 championship. The most likely option is a seat at Haas, a team where Ferrari would have liked to place him already this season.
Among Oliver Bearman’s admirers is also Helmut Marko. The Red Bull advisor has indeed expressed his admiration on multiple occasions, even teasing Fred Vasseur, for the current Prema driver.
However, Helmut Marko’s esteem for Oliver Bearman is not only due to his Jeddah performances. Helmut Marko revealed, in an interview with oe24, that he had contacted the Englishman in the past to try to bring him into the Red Bull family.
“We had an exploratory talk with Bearman, but by that point, he was already with the Ferrari Driver Academy,” Helmut Marko stated. “Certainly now, we won’t be raising him for them in Racing Bulls.” – he revealed.

The Austrian advisor thus wanted to close the door on any chance of seeing Oliver Bearman at Faenza. Naturally, Red Bull has no intention of doing Ferrari a favor. Discussions about the future of the Ferrari Academy driver will continue to be a hot topic in the coming months. The Englishman’s talent is clear for all to see. Now, it’s just a matter of time before he becomes a staple in Formula 1.
