Thirty-one points in five races is certainly not the haul that was expected at the start. Ferrari fans, despite already looking ahead to 2026, had hoped that Lewis Hamilton’s adventure with Ferrari would begin differently, especially given how well the team performed last year.
The SF-24 had, in fact, managed to stay in the fight for the Constructors’ title until the last corner of the last race of the season. An outcome that seemed unthinkable at the start of the year when Red Bull appeared to be untouchable for everyone. The track then told a different story, with McLaren and Ferrari slowly closing the gap to the team led by Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, ending up fighting for the title in a battle that kept everyone on edge until the end.
This is why Ferrari fans were hoping to experience a 2025 season starting from the strong foundations laid in 2024. However, the first five races of the year have told a different story, with an SF-25 that seems light-years away from its predecessor and with a gap of about three tenths to McLaren. A gap that is not helping Lewis Hamilton to quickly adapt to his new team, with Ferrari hoping to soon find solutions to the problems that have emerged so far.
Helmut Marko has no doubts about the Briton
According to some, however, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion’s focus may already be on the future. “I see him as rather desperate,” said Helmut Marko. “I think he is now just waiting to see the 2026 car, hoping that Ferrari will have done a good job. He needs a car that he can manage better than he is managing now,” added Red Bull’s senior advisor.
Being competitive at the start of the new regulatory cycle could prove to be a major advantage, and that is why all teams are working flat out to be ready for next year.
