While Formula One is still discussing about the unfortunate outcome of the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix, while at the same time focusing on the upcoming Dutch Grand Prix at the Zandvoort circuit, where many thousands of orange fans are expected to support Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing has its own home race in the DTM at the Austrian circuit of Spielberg. For Red Bull it’s the first year in this racing class, where they even cooperate with Ferrari: the two Formula 1 rivals have joined forced in a special project, as confirmed by Austrian former professional racing driver and current advisor to the Red Bull team, Helmut Marko.
Red Bull and Ferrari
In a recent interview for Krone.at, Dr Helmut Marko explains how it was possible for the Austrian and Italian teams to successfully work togheter: “Of course we are rivals in Formula 1” – he admitted – “But it was clear to us that if we were to compete in the DTM we would need something extraordinary. That’s the case with Ferrari. We have a good relationship with each other, our philosophy is also similar. This project makes a lot of sense.” – he added.
In the DTM, Max Verstappen’s former Formula 1 teammate Alexander Albon is the man behind the wheel. Marko is positive despite the fact Alex Albon did not impress during his time alongside the Dutchman, eventually losing his place on the grid, at least for the moment: “Alex is a talent. We haven’t written him off yet after his time with Red Bull in F1. He’ll get his chance again in Formula 1, wherever that may be. For him the DTM is now the perfect stage. But we also have a very talented driver in the DTM field in Liam Lawson.” – he concluded.
