Home » Hans-Gerd Ennser (Canadian GP steward) says Vettel was subject to second penalty for boycotting ‘parc ferme’

Hans-Gerd Ennser (Canadian GP steward) says Vettel was subject to second penalty for boycotting ‘parc ferme’. Canadian GP stewards react to last weekend's events in Montreal.

One of the three Canadian Grand Prix stewards said they decided not to penalise Scuderia Ferrari German driver Sebastian Vettel for his post-race reaction of last Sunday in Montreal. Hans-Gerd Ennser, under fire for the time penalty that cost the Maranello team victory at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, says the FIA panel actually gave the German as lenient a punishment as possible.

“It could have been 10 or 20 seconds or a stop-go penalty,” he is quoted by Kleine Zeitung – “The five second penalty is the least penalty for such an offense.”

Hans-Gerd Ennser also explained that the stewards decided not to add to Sebastian Vettel’s troubles by penalising his post-race actions, including boycotting ‘parc ferme’ and switching the positions of the number 1 and 2 marker boards: “We were told about these incidents, but we thought that because of the high emotions and the great pressure Vettel was under, we would not impose any further penalties,” he added.

Another Canadian GP steward, Mathieu Remmerie, also defended the imposition of Sebastian Vettel’s time penalty: “The rules are what they are, and we are here to apply the rules,” he told the Belgian news agency Sporza – “The discussion as to whether the rules need to be adjusted may of course take place.” – Mathieu Remmerie added – “As a motor sport enthusiast, I naturally also like to see a great race. Do some regulations go too far in certain cases? Maybe yes. If you compare motor sport with 10 to 20 years ago, then a lot has been improved, but it was always also at the initiative of the teams themselves.” – he explained.

Mathieu Remmerie admitted he was “slightly shocked” by the “huge media attention” since the controversial decision last Sunday. But he said: “There will always be commotion around certain decisions.”

Ohh yeah we are now supposed to be glad they only gave him 5sec
Yes he acted as he acted (which is absolutely acceptable in my opinion) but I would too in his situation actually I did even worse in front of my tv
They are all about following rules the very same rules they break with mercedes all the time
This is not about Vettel or his victory
But about principles and how the whole system is bending for a use of one team
Of course i cannot possibly prove that but nor Marko Helmut that is proudly representing this idea
I get that the corruption is everywhere but if someone and not just a one person but a whole bunch of ex drivers and fans of f1 point out how clearly you punish one team for something and other not for the same mistake how can you still talk about following rules and morality.
