Haas F1 team principal on the Ferrari engine. Haas team principal on the Ferrari engine.

Guenther Steiner, team principal of Haas F1 Team in the FIA Formula One World Championship, said that Mercedes’ dominance regarding engine power has come to an end, as Ferrari should now be considered at the same level with the Silver Arrows. The outcome of the 2017 Australian Grand Prix showed that Scuderia Ferrari is very close to Mercedes and can even challenge the German team, as Sebastian Vettel managed to score his 43rd career victory, finishing ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, with Kimi Raikkonen fourth.

Since the introduction of the V6 Hybrid era back in the 2014 championship, Mercedes have always been on top of the engine power list, generating more straight line speed than Ferrari, Renault or Honda who entered the competition at the start of the 2015 Formula One season.

Haas F1 Team themselves are using the Ferrari power units for this year and seem to have a consistent point competing car after French driver Romain Grosjean qualified sixth at the Albert Park circuit. Steiner now belives that thanks to the more efficient engine, Haas F1 Team are in a very strong position for the 2017 Formula 1 season: “Ferrari has put in a big step over the winter. The whole package has improved. The advantage that Mercedes had seems to have disappeared. The other teams will develop naturally during the season, but thanks to Ferrari now we are where we are.” – Guenther Steiner said, as reported by Italian newspaper Tuttosport.
