Pirelli Testing
With Wednesday’s session, Pirelli concluded the two days of testing at Silverstone, where McLaren, Williams, and Haas provided cars and drivers to support development for the 2025 season. This is the sixth track where the official F1 tire supplier has tested the tires, following Barcelona, Jerez de la Frontera, Suzuka, Le Castellet, and Mugello.
Rain Again
As happened on Tuesday, yesterday was also marked by unstable weather conditions, with rain slowing down the morning’s work program. The first part of the day was dedicated to comparative tests on the Wet compound, while the second part – marked by some clear skies – saw the cars fitted with slicks. A total of 273 laps were completed: 95 by McLaren’s Lando Norris (best lap in 1’30.987), 86 by Logan Sargeant in the Williams (best lap in 1’32.161), and 92 by Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman in the Haas (best lap in 1’29.481).
Comments from Mario Isola (Pirelli Motorsport Director)
“First of all, I want to thank McLaren, Williams, and Haas for the support they provided. We know well that it is not easy to find the time and energy for an additional two days of testing in such a packed calendar as this year’s, especially at the end of a very intense triple-header. Unfortunately, the weather conditions prevented us from completing the planned program for the slick tires, which was mainly aimed at evaluating compound solutions for high-severity tracks like Silverstone. We were able to run extensively with the intermediates yesterday, but even in this case, the collected data must be analyzed in light of very variable asphalt conditions, and therefore, not too representative. After all, the weather is an uncontrollable factor; we have to try to adapt, and that is what we did by working together with the teams.”
Asked about his day with Haas, Oliver Bearman noted: “I’ve just finished my Pirelli test at Silverstone. A lot of laps completed. A bit less (than) in the plan. But it was wet this morning, so we didn’t get as many as we wanted, but 92 laps to finish the day.
“(We were) trying out a load of different tyre compounds and constructions for next year, so it was a really positive day. I leant a lot, you know, feeling really prepared now for next year. It was great to get back to Silverstone, one of my favourite tracks. The wind was pretty high today, which made it quite difficult, but I loved every lap. I learnt a lot. Next time, I’m out in the car is in Budapest,” concluded the Ferrari junior.
