Ollie Bearman, Gunther Steiner warns Ferrari
“You haven’t gotten rid of me yet.” Günther Steiner’s new adventure begins with a smile as he starts writing for the official Formula 1 website today. The former Haas team principal wasted no time in getting to the heart of the matter: Oliver Bearman.
After much attention to off-track issues, the British driver partially diverted attention from the Red Bull chaos with his impressive debut weekend in Jeddah. With his performances in Saudi Arabia, Ferrari junior Ollie Bearman has firmly put himself in contention for a seat at Haas for the 2025 Formula 1 season. While Ayao Komatsu, who replaced Steiner, is delaying his arrival to reassure Nico Hülkenberg and Kevin Magnussen as much as possible, Gunther Steiner would push to sign Oliver Bearman immediately. And just like him, every team principal in the paddock would do the same: according to Steiner, each of them could ask Ferrari for Oliver Bearman.
Gunther Steiner’s comments
“This performance will have dispelled many doubts about his abilities. He is in a good position because many contracts expire at the end of this year. Ollie can put himself in a good position: he can’t go wherever he wants, but I think there is more than one opportunity for him,” Gunther Steiner commented. “He has a contract with Ferrari, but I don’t know for how long. If you were interested in him, you would go talk to Ferrari and see if it was possible to get something. Of course, you have to see what happens in your own team with the drivers. I think many teams will look at him proactively after his performance last weekend. If I see the potential, so will others. I believe he has a good chance of getting a seat next year.” – he added.
“Based on his performance in Jeddah, and from what I’ve seen from him when we worked at Haas, I would put him in a car,” – the former Haas team principal concluded. “Obviously, it depends on circumstances and available seats. You have to look at the entire picture, but he would be a candidate. Of course, it’s not guaranteed that he will succeed 100%. There’s always a risk. But the way he performed in qualifying and the race in Jeddah, after only doing one hour of practice, suggests that the risk is much lower.”
