“Thursday I met Mattia Binotto, he told me that the engine for the next season will be a ‘bomb’. In Emilia Romagna (one of the wealthiest and most developed regions in Europe, with the third highest gross domestic product per capital in Italy) there is a lot of support for Ferrari, and if it will be competitive it will be positive for us too, because it means that we will have a fast engine.” – Haas team principal Günther Steiner opened on the 2023 Formula 1 season from the Masini Theater in Faenza, where he attended the award ceremony for the 29th edition of the Bandini Trophy – awarded to Kevin Magnussen – and to receive the medal of the Senate of the Italian Republic.
The Haas boss, whose comments were reported by the local newspaper Ravenna Today, therefore wanted to reassure the Ferrari fans in view of the 2023 Formula 1 championship, after the news regarding Mattia Binotto’s resignation, which was officially accepted on Tuesday by the Maranello team.
“I’m glad to see friends I met in the world of rally,” Günther Steiner continued. “I went to Faenza when Red Bull purchased Paul Stoddart’s Minardi, following the six months after the transfer of ownership. We had two difficult years with pandemic, but we put ourselves in a good situation to resist. The season we have just ended went well, but it could be better. We can consider it a year of improvement. This year Kevin gave us a pole position. In 2023 we want to progress even more, make another leap in the standings, always fight for the points and one day get on the podium. We have to set ourselves great goals to achieve them and grow” – he continued.
Kevin Magnussen, who arrived in Faenza aboard a Dallara (producer of the Haas chassis), recalled the best moment of the season: “The pole position in Brazil was a very strong emotion. My next goal is to return on the podium, a result that has been missing since 2014”. Five other members of the Haas team were awarded: Giuseppe Piacquadio (Human Resource Manager), Maurizio Bocchi (Performance Development Manager), Andrea De Zordo (Chief Designer), Matteo Piraccini (Head Chassiss Engineering) and Simone Resta (Technical Director).
