The 2024 Formula 1 championship season began about three weeks ago, but it took just two laps of the first race to understand the scenario that will unfold in the coming months. At least, most fans believe that the outcome is already largely decided. Races where Red Bull fails to win will be an event; Ferrari has shown enough to be considered the second force. However, there are still some reservations that teams like Mercedes and McLaren must address before heading to Europe.
Two championships in one
What appears quite clear, even to those who have experienced Formula 1, is that this year “It’s as if there are two championships coexisting,” said former Haas team principal Gunther Steiner, interviewed by the ‘ABC Australia’. “The grid is perfectly divided in two, with five well-defined teams at the top and five at the bottom. I thought the group would be more united, but the opposite happened.”
Ferrari’s hopes
However, contrary to the masses, Gunther Steiner is among the most optimistic. In fact, according to the former manager of the American team, someone could manage to challenge Red Bull in a few races. Besides indicating the potential rival, he also sets some ‘tiny’ conditions regarding it: “If Ferrari manages to develop the car continuously and efficiently, it can hope to challenge Red Bull in the second part of the season,” he concludes as reported by ‘RaceFans.net’.
We would all be pleased to witness more eventful races in terms of the fight at the top. Hoping costs nothing, but the feeling is that it will be very difficult for anyone, not just the Maranello team, to achieve such a goal. At least in 2024.
