An update has recently been given by Haas team principal Guenther Steiner regarding the possibility of Mattia Binotto making a comeback to Formula 1.

Italian manager Mattia Binotto, who departed from Scuderia Ferrari during the winter after working for the Maranello team for almost three decades, is currently on gardening leave. He resigned as Ferrari team principal following a disappointing second half of the 2022 Formula 1 championship, during which the Italian side lost sight of championship rivals Red Bull.

Despite starting the 2022 Formula One campaign strong, with a one-two finish for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz at the Bahrain International Circuit, Scuderia Ferrari fell behind in the development race against Red Bull, and a number of strategy mistakes alongside a limited power unit affected by reliability issues, resulted in further setbacks for the team led by Mattia Binotto last year.

At the end of the 2022 Formula 1 season, Scuderia Ferrari only just managed to keep their noses in front of Mercedes in the final constructor standings, leading to Mattia Binotto handing in his resignation and Frederic Vasseur being appointed as Ferrari team principal in January.

Mattia Binotto return very likely
“He worked at Ferrari for a long time, I think 28 years,” Guenther Steiner explained in a recent interview for the Mirror Sport News website – “It was his first job there and he was never anywhere else, so obviously when you get hit with this, it’s difficult. But I think he’s moved on from it and is looking forward to his future. I don’t know what he’s working on but, for sure, there will be opportunities for him. If you ask me, yes. Don’t ask me where, when and why! But I think yes.” – the Haas team principal concluded.
