Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has shared his opinion on the chances of seeing Adrian Newey at Ferrari.
With speculation that Adrian Newey is getting closer to Aston Martin, the possibility of him joining Ferrari is becoming increasingly slim. Former Haas team principal Gunther Steiner has expressed his views on the likelihood of the British car designer moving to the Maranello team.
Guenther Steiner’s interview
Adrian Newey’s arrival at Ferrari now seems more improbable. The legendary engineer behind the design of cars for 25 Formula 1 world titles appears more inclined to stay in England. What seems to have been decisive isn’t the $100 million offer from Lawrence Stroll, but rather Adrian Newey’s desire to remain in Great Britain and the freedom he would have in the technical project. In an interview with Talksport, Gunther Steiner shared his thoughts.
“Adrian is a genius when it comes to designing cars. Just because everyone says he will go to Ferrari doesn’t mean he will. Right now, he’s highly sought after, and when you’re in that position, you don’t want to rush your decision. I think seeing Adrian at Ferrari is very unlikely. The Maranello management is already working on the team’s structure and has already designated some roles that wouldn’t align with Adrian’s expectations.” – the Italian-American motorsport engineer and former team manager pointed out.
“I am not saying he definitely won’t go there, but that’s what I think. Also, Aston Martin is heavily investing in its own structure. They are hiring many people and just announced that Andy Cowell, the former head of Mercedes engines, will go there to replace Martin Whitmarsh. Maybe he wants to go to a team that is investing heavily in that kind of project. I believe he will choose with an eye on 2026 because working on 2025 projects is a bit late. I know Hamilton would love to work with Adrian, but I don’t think that will happen. After all, if I had to choose someone to work with, Newey would be at the top of the list.” – the former Haas team principal concluded.
