Nove decimi di ritardo al mattino e otto al pomeriggio. E’ questo il resoconto della prima giornata di prove libere di Sebastian Vettel su un tracciato di Suzuka che sembra sposarsi alla perfezione con una rinata Mercedes e col suo interprete migliore, Lewis Hamilton.

Il leader del campionato, infatti, ha aggredito l’asfalto giapponese senza risparmiarsi ed ha trovato subito un feeling praticamente perfetto, mentre il tedesco ha faticato al mattino, chiudendo alle spalle del compagno di team Kimi Raikkonen, per poi risalire nelle FP2 sino al terzo posto anche se con un gap di otto decimi che non lascia ben sperare in vista delle qualifiche.

Nonostante il ritardo dalla Mercedes numero 44 sia importante, Vettel è parso soddisfatto per il ritmo mostrato nella simulazione di passo gara. L’aver affrontato un venerdì privo di problemi ha certamente agevolato il lavoro del pilota e del team.

“Sono soddisfatto, è stata una giornata tranquilla, quantomeno più tranquilla rispetto ad altre occasioni. Sono più o meno contento della vettura, ma non siamo molto veloci”.

Sebastian è comunque consapevole dell’attuale livello di inferiorità della sua SF71H rispetto alla W09 di Hamilton sul giro secco. Secondo il tedesco sarà necessario lavorare duramente nel corso della notte per cercare di ridurre il ritardo dalle due frecce d’argento.

“Dobbiamo lavorare stanotte in ottica qualifica dove sarà fondamentale essere veloci sul giro singolo. Ad ogni modo sono contento. Non so se domani saremo in grado di fare la pole, ma sono soddisfatto di quanto fatto oggi. Se le Mercedes saranno veloci come oggi sarà difficile”.

Vettel, infine, ha dichiarato di confidare nella pioggia per la giornata di domani per cercare di beffare le due Mercedes. Una affermazione che non lascia ben sperare…
