To solve its problems in the 2023 Formula 1 season, Scuderia Ferrari called in a highly experienced French team principal, just like in 1993, when Luca Cordero di Montezemolo hired Jean Todt as general manager. If Frederic Vasseur achieves even just a part of the former FIA president’s results, he and the Ferrari fans will be enormously satisfied, considering that the last world title for the Maranello team dates back to 2008, while we need to go back to 2007 for the drivers’ championship (Kimi Raikkonen).
Fifteen years that Italian businessman, sports manager and former futsal player Giovanni Malagò has described as being too many. The current president of the Italian National Olympic Committee, in an interview with the Italian media agencies at the end of the year, hoped that 2023 could give the Maranello team that turnaround that has already been glimpsed this season, but has also been lost in a sea of mistakes above all in terms of strategic decision, operational procedures and reliability issues.
“Yes, Ferrari hasn’t won a World Championship for too many years. I don’t feel like saying too much, but if after 50 years we have brought an Italian motorcycle, Ducati, to win the MotoGP series even with an Italian rider, we expect that this will soon happen in Formula 1 as well” – this is the hope of Giovanni Malagò. – “We know that Red Bull has had something extra this year, and we hope that there is no recovery from Mercedes next year because from one competitor there would be two. But Ferrari’s goal is to try to win again and Fred Vasseur could be the right person.” – the president of the Italian National Olympic Committee concluded.
