With the return of Formula One, the podcast of Formula 1 Italian journalist and expert Giorgio Terruzzi has also returned. And how could he not talk about one of the most important current matters such as Ferrari sporting director Laurent Mekies leaving Maranello, in his latest episode?
Specifically, the journalist focused on the political weight of Ferrari within the Formula 1 paddock and the Federation, which is evident in some details and relationships between teams, just as is happening now with the transfer of the Frenchman.
Regarding the problem, Giorgio Terruzzi gets straight to the point: “Ferrari has some political management problems. Speaking also about the Laurent Mekies issue, the team was completely caught off guard by his move to Alpha Tauri.” Frederic Vasseur, in fact, was astounded by the way this departure was communicated to Maranello, and this has left him with a few concerns. “Perhaps this transfer is behind the hypothesis of an exchange with Red Bull technicians who will go to Ferrari. There is a sort of internal market between the two teams.” And it will be this delicate chess game that will be the first major test for the new Ferrari team principal, who will have to demonstrate how much he can rule with an iron fist.
But the issue doesn’t end there. The well-known Italian journalist, in fact, brings to light the appeal of Carlos Sainz’s penalty at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, pointing out that “even the appeal against Carlos Sainz’s penalty was rejected for lack of new elements. This is the same motivation with which they rejected Sebastian Vettel’s appeal in Canada in 2019. It seems strange to me that Ferrari did not bring new elements, but more than that, the FIA’s response is so contemptuous. There is a significant political problem for Ferrari.” – Giorgio Terruzzi concluded.
