Gina Schumacher opens up: “This is how I overcame my father Michael’s accident”
Since the tragic skiing accident involving Michael Schumacher in 2013, his family has maintained the utmost discretion regarding the situation, consistently asking for their privacy to be respected. However, in the new ZDF documentary “Pferdestärke – Die Welt der Gina Schumacher”, set to be released in the coming days, his daughter Gina has shared, with great emotion, how she has experienced the past few years.
For her, horse riding has proven to be far more than just a simple hobby; it became a way to cope with the family’s new reality. Gina, who is now a multiple world champion in competitive reining, explained: “After my father’s accident, I threw myself into it completely, because I needed to do something. Horses had always been important to me, but since then I simply can’t do without them. They helped me overcome every difficulty.”
Corinna Schumacher, the wife of seven-time world champion Michael, also spoke about a conversation she had with her husband when Gina was only 10 years old. Even back then, the German driver had already understood that his daughter could reach the very top of equestrian sport, potentially surpassing even the achievements of her mother.
“One time Michael told me: ‘Gina will be much better than you,’” Corinna recalled. “‘She is more selfish. If you are an athlete, you have to be selfish in a certain way. It’s fantastic, because otherwise you achieve nothing,’ Michael told me. Today I think he was absolutely right.”
Despite all the success Gina has achieved, she has remained humble, attributing every result to the opportunities her parents gave her: “I am grateful to be able to do this,” she said. “It is not something that should be taken for granted. My parents made all of this possible. That is why it has always been important for me to fully commit myself and give my very best.”
Gina Schumacher’s journey highlights the profound resilience of the Schumacher family in the face of immense personal tragedy. By channeling her grief into world-class athletic performance, she has not only honored her father’s competitive spirit but also found a personal path to healing. The upcoming documentary promises to offer fans a rare and moving glimpse into how the next generation of the Schumacher legacy continues to thrive through passion, hard work, and the enduring bond between a father and his daughter.
