The return of ‘Fisico’
The Barcelona GP was the latest race to take place in the Formula 1 world championship, and the calendar now sees the Circus heading to Austria for the weekend of June 26th to 28th. Right there in the Red Bull Ring paddock, fans will witness the return of one of the most beloved drivers in recent history. This time around, he will take on a completely different yet equally fascinating role compared to the one he held on the grid from 1996 to 2009.
The man in question is Giancarlo Fisichella, a three-time Grand Prix winner who still continues his racing career today in GT categories. The 53-year-old Roman has been appointed as an F1 Ambassador, a comeback into the world of Formula 1 that the former Ferrari driver himself confirmed during an interview with F1news.eu. ‘Fisico’ will be present for the Austrian Grand Prix, but that is not all. The two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner in the LMGTE Pro class will step into this role once again later in the championship for an event very close to his heart and to the Italian fans: the Italian GP at Monza.
The role of the F1 Ambassador
Specifically, under this honorary title, Giancarlo Fisichella will be tasked with representing the world championship across various institutional and promotional activities. Furthermore, he will help strengthen the bond between F1 and its fanbase by interacting closely with the public, VIP guests, and commercial partners.
Giancarlo Fisichella’s new role as an F1 ambassador bridges the gap between the sport’s iconic history and its modern fanbase, ensuring that his wealth of experience and enduring popularity will bring immense value to both the Austrian and Italian Grands Prix.
