The 2023 Formula 1 season kicks off with the Bahrain Grand Prix, scheduled to take place on March 5 at the Bahrain International Circuit, a venue that will also host the winter pre-season testing session.
It will be the first opportunity to see Scuderia Ferrari’s new F1 challenger in action on a race weekend, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz ready to repeat the amazing performance and result from the 2022 F1 campaign, when the Monegasque driver won for Ferrari agead of his Maranello team.
The Bahrain Grand Prix made its debut in Formula 1 almost two decades ago, when it became the maiden F1 event to take place in the Middle East and it was given the award for “Best Organised Grand Prix”. Costing USD$150m, the Bahrain International Circuit (also known as “Sakhir”) was built in 16 months and its unique characteristic is that it can host races on several different layouts.
The seating capacity of the Bahrain International Circuit is 45,000 people and it has the appeal of an 8-storey VIP tower. It was in 2014 when the race was held at night in order to provide fans with much better conditions and to also have a better time slot with TV audiences for the European fans. Having become the second Formula 1 night race, the Bahrain Grand Prix has since been held at nights – a Formula 1 night race in the desert.
